Horizon '25
Since 2024, Rylee Boyles has designed the visual branding for Horizon, an immersive nighttime concert experience that showcases student talent and up-and-coming nationally touring artists. Previously hosted at RIMAC arena, Horizon has now found its signature home at the open-air Epstein Family Amphitheater. Over the span of two nights, Horizon 2025 lineup featured a diverse lineup including Leon Thomas, Malcolm Todd, Audrey Nuna, Sofia Isella, Charisse Chua, and Still Mardel. The Associated Students Concerts & Events (ASCE) approached Rylee seeking a galactic inspired branding through chrome elements, gradient maps, contemporary typography, and the desire for a cutting-edge look. Through a series of design iterations, the visual direction evolved, shifting from galactic to tech-inspired, ultimately settling on a celestial concept anchored by a 3D chrome effect logo. Thematic graphics included gradients with grainy noise, planetary rings, and stars. Throughout the process, Rylee experimented with layering the assets to create depth and find the perfect layout. The partnership extended to the event’s teaser video, for which Rylee assisted with the creative direction and provided the storyboard. Using this framework, the ASCE team produced the video teaser.
Initially, ASCE’s request for the concert was limited to promotional giveaways items, such as tote bags, bracelets, and stickers for their “satellite event.” Citing modest sales from the previous year, they were hesitant to produce merchandise for sale. However, following Rylee’s proposal of a spray paint gradient star hoodie that complemented Horizon’s new branding, ASCE approved. Working closely with the ASCE team, Rylee explored mockups using the Illustrator paint tool to refine spray effects. All these creative efforts resulted in the first merchandise sell out in Horizon history.
Conceived through the collaboration of Rylee and Edward New, our web developer, its design balanced visuals with purposeful user interaction (UI). At its core, it featured a live countdown timer until the concert and served as the registration portal for tickets. When visitors landed on the page, they could click and drag to shift the galaxy background, an immersive interaction that made the website feel dynamic. Sound was also integrated into the experience with a speaker icon in the top right corner that activated music. Together, these elements elevated the website beyond a static landing page into an interactive stage for the Horizon identity.
