One-Stop Health & Wellness Vending Machine

One-Stop Health & Wellness Vending Machine

Case Study Associated Students (A.S.) Print +1

In 2023, the Associated Students’ Office of Health & Wellness and the Student Sustainability Collective (SSC) partnered to launch a one-stop health and wellness vending machine for UC San Diego undergraduates. The project’s purpose was to offer access to free health resources such as Plan B, fentanyl test strips, organic pads, and first aid kits in a visible point on campus. Ahead of the launch, Leanne Liaw, SSC Director of Public Health & AS Office Of Health and Wellbeing Student Health Advocacy Director, and Vaishnavi Ventrapragada, AVP of Health and Wellbeing, consulted Joshric Aurea, Senior Graphic Designer at A.S. Graphic Studio, to create branded vending machine wraps that featured a step-by-step instruction panel and item pricing chart. The design process emphasized clarity and usability. Iterations addressed client feedback on font size, spacing, and emphasis on point values, ultimately grouping items by point category for quicker comprehension. The wraps included Fluffy, A.S.’s mascot, adapted for a health context. Character explorations featured character variations with lab coats, medical bags, and other visual elements before finalizing a streamlined illustration consistent with A.S. branding. The completed installation translated digital mockups into a scaled physical design that balanced functionality with clear communication.
